Article I. IN GENERAL |
§ 2-9.1. Courthouse security—Check points established; weapons prohibited, exceptions; penalties for violations.
(a)
The parish police jury is hereby empowered to establish and maintain one (1) or more courthouse security check points for all persons entering the parish courthouse.
(b)
All persons entering the courthouse shall be required to enter through the established security check points.
(c)
No person entering the parish courthouse shall be permitted to enter with any type of weapon whatsoever, except for the following persons:
(1)
Uniformed bailiffs or parish deputies;
(2)
The district attorney, his assistant district attorneys and investigator;
(3)
Full time law enforcement officers when appearing on official business or when issued a subpoena to testify, but not when a party to a civil action.
The possession of a weapon permit shall not entitle a person to possess any weapon in the courthouse and the possession of any such weapon permit shall not be a defense for any violation of this section.
(d)
Any person who enters or attempts to enter the courthouse without going through a designated security check point, or anyone who assists or attempts to assist another to enter the courthouse through any means or methods other than through a designated security check point, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00) or six (6) months in the parish jail or both.
(e)
A copy of the ordinance from which this section is derived shall be posted at the designated security check points established under the authority of such ordinance and at any other locations deemed appropriate by the police jury.
