§ 18-18. Speed limit generally.

  • (a)

    There is hereby established a general speed limit on all the public roads of Webster Parish, Louisiana, under the jurisdiction of the Webster Parish police jury, for all vehicular traffic using same, of a maximum speed of fifty-five (55) miles per hour except as is hereinafter set forth.

    (b)

    For trucks, trucks or cars pulling trailers, or trucks or cars pulling another vehicle, said speed limit shall be fifty (50) miles per hour. A truck shall be deemed to include pick up trucks if same is carrying a load of any kind or description.

    (c)

    On certain roads or on certain areas of certain roads as may be determined by the Webster Parish police jury, the general speed limit may be decreased at any time to any speed less than the general speed limit and it shall be the duty of the police jury to erect and maintain signs, signals or markers giving notice of such speed limits.

    (d)

    It shall be unlawful for any operator of any vehicle to exceed the maximum speed so posted on any of said parish roads. In the event that such operator of a vehicle shall violate the provisions of this [section] he may be fined up to one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) and costs of court and/or he may be incarcerated for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days.
