§ 6-50. Definitions.

  • For the purposes of this [article], the following definitions shall apply:

    Animal. The term "animal" shall mean any living creature domestic or wild.

    Cat. The term "cat" shall mean any cat whether male, female or altered.

    Dog. The term "dog" shall mean any dog, and any member of the canine family of species, whether male, female or altered.

    Health officer. The term "health officer" shall mean the director of the Webster Parish health unit or his duly authorized representative.

    Owner. The term "owner" shall mean any person, having right of property in any animal or who keeps in his care or harbors an animal, or who acts as his custodian, or who permits an animal to remain on or about his premises.

    Running at large. The term "running at large" shall mean any animal not on the premises of the owner, or other authorized person, or not accompanied by and under the control of a responsible person.

    Vaccination against rabies. The term "vaccination against rabies" shall mean the injection, subcutaneously or otherwise by a licensed veterinarian, or by a person under his supervision, of animal antirabies vaccine, as approved by the health officer.

    Vaccination certificate. The term "vaccination certificate" shall mean a serially numbered certificate, on a form approved by the health officer, countersigned by the veterinarian or person administering the vaccination, giving the name of the owner of the dog to whom issued, and a description of the dog to whom issued, indicating the year for which issued, certifying that such dog was inoculated or vaccinated against rabies and giving the date thereof.

    Vaccination tag. The term "vaccination tag" shall mean a suitable tag, approved by the health officer, bearing the same number as the vaccination certificate and indicating the year for which issued.

    Veterinarian. The term "veterinarian" shall mean any person licensed by the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Louisiana.
