§ 21-1. Ambulance drivers and operator; liability insurance required.

  • All owners, operators or drivers of ambulances either domiciled or operating emergency ambulance service in the Parish of Webster, State of Louisiana, shall be required to carry public liability insurance covering any ambulance being operated in this parish, which liability insurance shall provide limits for bodily injury of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) for each person and three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000.00) for each occurrence, property damage coverage in the amount of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00); provided, however, any owner, operator or driver of an ambulance which does not provide emergency ambulance service shall be required to carry public liability insurance covering any ambulance operating in this parish, which liability insurance shall provide limits for bodily injury of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) for each person and one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) for each occurrence, and property damage coverage in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00). A certificate of insurance evidencing such coverage shall be filed with the secretary-treasurer of the police jury.

    No ambulance shall be operated in the parish, without a valid insurance policy with the limits described above with an insurance company duly licensed and authorized to do business in the state.

    Any person who violates this section shall be subject to a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.00) and/or six (6) months in prison, or both. Each day this section is violated shall be deemed a separate violation.
